The invention of cinema in colour

Introduction

Leaving the factory, 1895

On the 28th December 1895 the first public screening of the Cinématographe of the Lumière brothers took place in the Grand Café, in Paris.
The initial moment of surprise past, we would strive to add colour and sound to these grey, silent images. It was the beginning of a wonderful story of research and invention that resulted in modern cinema with sound and in colour.
There were two possibilities for giving film colour: re-using the tradition of shows with animated images and magical lanterns on the one hand (Colouring) and on the other, the scientific method that was supposed to result in real cinema in colour (The invention of natural colour).
